I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums. I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy.
I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others. Lesson Details. I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication.
One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far! I am a multi-instrumentalist who has taught for 41 years. I have had both Zakke W and two other rock stars in lessons. Further, I had a Grammy nominee and a well known comedian and Hollywood Actress, as well as countless music school scholarship students.
Many of my students have embarked on performing careers as well as teaching at the school and college level. The lessons are laid back, friendly and above all- helpful. We will study and work on the music of your choice, but, with a slight twist from the traditional, that I incorporate not just playing the song, but to get you the student ready to be able to work out the songs harmony, theory, notation and phrasing on your own. I feel this must be done in order to get a student to be able to perform with others. Lessons should always be about instructing a student to know and utilize e.
Very musical concept so that they will be able to perform with others. Lesson Details. You can expect to be well grounded in theory and being able to play an instrument with solo and chords, comping, etc., in all keys - as well as song structure and song learning. We will analyze all aspects of the song. We will do a song together, then, i will through theory, show the student how to work out a song on their own. Studio Equipment. I have amps, cables, recorders, books, sheets, etc here at the studio.
You need only your instrument and a music writing book. Travel Equipment. they must have instrument.
Specialties. All methods are my own.
We work through theory and analysis to enable a student to learn how to put a song together and perform it on their own. December 5, 2014 Cello In studio The most attentive and knowledgeable music teacher I have ever had. Very aware of student improvements and yet able to make suggestions where they are needed, without any kind of harsh criticism.
John provides all the information - both theory and performance in a very laid back way which leaves the student feeling stress free. He is very realistic as to the expectations of what the student's abilities are now and when 'tentatively' they can expect to achieve a level of playing. He does his job. It is up to me to do mine!
Having fun and learning in a very short time. Not easy - but practice, practice, practice. I've been teaching trumpet for 20 years and my students have gone on to the State level Band Auditions and won multiple times. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to make a decent sound, play scales, arpeggios and simple tunes, and as time goes on you'll be able to play popular tunes solo and with accompaniment of piano or band.
I specialize in classical, jazz and klezmer style, typically use best published books, and have the renovated, quiet and spacious studio, music stands, audio equipment. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you! For the past twenty years, Dimitry has been teaching students of all ages to play the clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, and recorder.
Students will learn proper techniques, posture, breathing, phrasing, articulation, tone, rhythm, sight reading, solfeggio, music theory, and music history. They will also learn to play solos (with and without accompaniment), as well as duets (along with the instructor). Private lessons are customized to meet each student's goals, such as preparation for regional and state band auditions, concerts, and other music competitions. Meet the Business Owner Business Owner Dimitry Chernavsky is the Principal Clarinetist of the Livingston Symphony Orchestra, the Co-Principal of the Hanover Wind Symphony, and a member of the 'A La Mode' clarinet quartet.
Dimitry is a graduate of Kiev Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Performance and Education. June 8, 2015 Clarinet In studio Our 12-year old son has been learning clarinet from Mr. Dimitry for about a year now and we highly recommend him to prospective students for his deep music knowledge, rich clarinet performance experience and above all, just being a great clarinet teacher. In a year's time with Mr.
Dimitry, our son's progress has been very impressive. After our son started lessons with Mr. Dimitry, it quickly became apparent that Mr. Dimitry is a very experienced teacher for young musicians. He engages our son effectively to keep him interested in music and clarinet while at the same time sets high expectations for him.
Our son always looks forward to clarinet lessons and also is motivated to practice pieces at home. Dimitry not only teaches sound clarinet skills, but also emphasizes the importance of playing music the right way, that is to tell stories and express feelings through music rather than to play music like a technician. Although it is difficult for a young musician to fully appreciate this concept, it does go a long way in preparing him to become a really good musician in the long run. Dimitry is very polite, pleasant and professional.
We recommend him without any reservation. June 8, 2015 Music Performance In studio My 7 year old son has been taking recorder lessons from Dimitry for almost 1 year now. Dimitry is very patient, encouraging, and enganging - considering that my son is on the younger side. Dimitry provides music instruction that is appropriate age and level wise, so my son feels accomplished and challenged at the same time. We plan to continue with Dimitry and hopefully advance to the clarinet once his fingers can cover the clarinet holes and he has learned more music theory.
My son looks forward to his music lessons. We are very pleased with his musical instruction. June 16, 2014 Saxophone In studio Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.
As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level. Justin has been an in demand musician for well over a decade.

July 14, 2014 Trumpet In home Justin showed my 10 year old son how to play the trumpet and did a great job.
He was patient, made my son feel comfortable and was able to help him get a better sound by the end of the very first lesson. Jalen does not give high praise easily so we were impressed that he enjoyed learning from him. My mother listened in on some of the lessons and she also said Justin did a great job - friendly personality and great tips on how to play. We highly recommend him. I have extensive experie. I love to inspire students to practice, that is where the real magic happens. I love to see them not only set goals for themselves but reach them. I am studying french horn at Grand Valley State University but am also efficient in euphonium, piano, music theory, aural (reading rhythms and reciting them aloud), and trumpet.
