Note sure if this will help, but read my experience below. I got a MBP Retina and had the same issue, the USB ports work with everything connected to it so far apart from the Gamrin 276C. Went the route of bootcamp and Win7, which had no problems connecting to the 276C. I then uploaded the latest drivers from Garmin for OSX (I'm on 10.8.2) with no luck. Eventually I figured why not try an USB hub to step down to USB 2 with the hub.

Got a cheapie USB 2 hub that I plugged into the MBP, then connected the 276C to it. Worked great and have not had any issues with it since. So it seems the USB3 ports on the new Macs and OSX may not play nice with some older USB equipment out there. If that is the case try a USB 2 hub and see, may save you a lot of time and frustration.
